A Sunday drive along Route 20, following Jacob’s Ladder Trail, gives you an inviting welcome into the picturesque town of Russell. The rugged terrain that forms this area makes Russell a small town nestled within a big natural landscape. Settled in 1792 within a deep valley alongside the Westfield River, the river forms three beautiful cascades that produce an unusual natural effect.
A main attraction to whitewater enthusiasts when Spring brings the mountain run-off of water into the river, Russell is the perfect place to try your hand at canoe racing. Together with the neighboring town of Huntington, Russell recently hosted the National White Water Races.
